What is a Planetary Helm?

7 April 2022

A Planetary Helm uses three gears that mesh internally with the main steering shaft.  These gears rotate on their won axis and around the central shaft ensuring the correct distribution of outboard torque.  This provides for a longer steering system life with greater efficiency and less feedback.

Multiple load points create a better feel for the operator and a greater spread of load resulting in the finest mechanical steering available

Standard steering helms have the steering shaft at the extremity of the helm body with a single cog to drive the main cable drum.
